• Jazz Band - outstanding performance last night..and thanks to everyone for coming.  We had 100% attendance... you all have at least a 50 on your exam right now!
• Congratulations to all of our award winners last night, and thank you to the seniors for the truly awesome and creative gift.
• 2009 Drumline - thank you to those of you who were here this morning for our meeting with Matt.  I think that the discussion we had will be very helpful in the coming year.  Please take everything that was said "to heart" and we will have a great season next year.
• 2009 Student Leadership - we will have a brief meeting in the band room on Tuesday (6/2) at 8am.  This is a mandatory meeting.  Please be there!
• Jazz Band - Take what you need home with you after school on Friday for our Barnes & Noble performance this weekend.  If you need something from the band room on Saturday morning, meet me here at 8:30.  We will meet at Barnes & Noble at 9:00am on Saturday.  We play from 10-12.

• The audition process for next year's marching season is complete.  Thank you to everyone who auditioned.  These were, by far, some of the toughest decisions I've had to make since I've been here at Freeman.  All of you did very well and I hope you know that if you didn't "make" a leadership position, it doesn't mean that I don't consider you to be a leader, or an asset to this band program.

• Good rehearsal this morning.  For the 2 of you who decided not to show up and the 2 of you who showed up extremely late, I'm considering not allowing you to perform in Atlanta.  Since this was our one and only rehearsal before we perform, I'm just not sure what to do.  The other alternative would be to have everyone come in after school tomorrow for another rehearsal.  I know that I was VERY clear about the importance if this morning's rehearsal.  How you missed that is beyond my understanding.

• Congratulations to ENTWINE, our winterguard, on their 1st Place win at the Godwin competition this past Saturday!  (woo!)
• Percussion Ensemble - Matt and I are both extremely proud of the work you have put in over the past couple of months.  You played wonderfully on Saturday.  I have not yet seen the re-cap sheet, so I don't know what the results are yet.  But, wherever you placed, it doesn't matter.  You still performed with pure awesomeness!
• Report Time for the Pre-Festival Concert tomorrow night is 6:30pm.  Shirt and tie for the guys, ladies should wear a dress, skirt (long) or slacks and a nice blouse - just look nice.  No jeans, t-shirts, tennis shoes or flip-flops.
• Jazz Band - the shirts are in.  If you ordered one, please bring in $18 ASAP.  ($20 for the XXL)

Hi Guys.  I hope you all enjoyed the break.  I know I did!  We have a 2 hour delay tomorrow, and yes, we WILL have Concert Band rehearsal tomorrow morning.  Please be at rehearsal, and ready to play by 9am.  Section Leaders, please help get the word out to your sections TONIGHT!  
Also, there is a possibility that we will be able to re-schedule the pre-festival concert for this coming Tuesday, March 10th at 7pm.  Please check your calendars and let me know tomorrow if we can do this.

The Pre-Festival Concert scheduled for Tuesday, March 3rd at 7pm has been cancelled due to schools being closed for inclement weather.  (HOORAY FOR SNOW DAYS, by the way!)  If we can re-schedule this concert, we will do so.  Unfortunately, I cannot even begin to try to reschedule until school opens back up.  As soon as I can get something worked out, I will get the word out.
Assuming that we are back in school on Wednesday, the rehearsal schedule for the rest of the week will be as follows:

• NEW PRACTICE POLICY -
• We're going to try something new for the third nine week grading period.  Starting now, no practice records will be due on a weekly basis.  However, weekly assessments will be given on music in your folder.  (This includes jazz band music).  You should still be practicing as always.  When "test" day happens (it will be random), you should be fully prepared to play anything in the folder AND major scales.  Grading for this will count the same as practice records have all year.
• Spring Trip Room Assignments:
• Sign up sheets will be posted tomorrow.  Seniors may sign up tomorrow, Juniors on Thursday, Sophomores on Friday and Freshmen on Monday.  Upperclassmen may sign younger students into their rooms.  Anyone who "abuses" this will have their entire room pulled and re-assigned after everyone else has signed up.

• Wind Ensemble - Remember that we have our first rehearsal on Tuesday, February 3rd at 7AM.
• District Band Students - Please bring in your $16 fee as soon as possible.  I have only received this from 3 of you.
• NEW PRACTICE POLICY -
• We're going to try something new for the third nine week grading period.  Starting now, no practice records will be due on a weekly basis.  However, weekly assessments will be given on music in your folder.  (This includes jazz band music).  You should still be practicing as always.  When "test" day happens (it will be random), you should be fully prepared to play anything in the folder AND major scales.  Grading for this will count the same as practice records have all year.
• SPRING TRIP ROOM ASSIGNMENTS -
• I will put up sign-up sheets for rooms sometime next week.  Seniors will be able to sign up on the first day, then juniors, etc...  Upperclassmen may sign up students in lower grades who are in the SAME room.  Anyone who "abuses" this will have their entire room pulled and re-assigned after everyone else has signed up.

• Jazz Band - report to the band room at 1:30 this afternoon, we will load up quickly and head over to Tuckahoe.
• Percussionists - since no one has come forward about the broken timpani throne, I have no choice but to hold you all responsible.  Unless someone comes forward today, all of you will have detention.

• Percussionists - we need to talk about the broken timpani throne.  Either someone takes responsibility for it, or all of you do.  That piece of equipment is brand new, and has not really even been used yet.  I want to continue purchasing items that we need, but if you are not going to take care of it, then I will spend that money on other things.
• Pit Orchestra - OUR REHEARSAL DAY WILL BE TUESDAYS FROM 4-5:30, STARTING ON TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 3rd.

• Happy New Year!  I hope you all had a relaxing break.
• Chair auditions will be held in class this Thursday and Friday.  Auditions will be "blind" and will consist of major scales, chromatic scale, and the prepared piece that was handed out before break.  EVERYONE will audition (even if you're the only one in your section).  The audition score will be counted as a test grade.
